Membership Terms and conditions

Nothing in these terms and conditions limit any rights you may have under the Trade Practices Act, Fair Trading Act, any other Commonwealth or State Legislation or any other such laws in NSW. Any terms or conditions that create an inconsistency with any legislation are considered void to the extent of the inconsistency.


  • Good Motive: An electric vehicle buyers’ organisation based in Sydney, NSW.
  • Members: NSW residents of driving age who join Good Motive by paying a $200 membership fee.
  • Management: The owner(s) of Good Motive.
  • Site: The Good Motive website including all its webpages
  • Government: Local, state and federal government agencies.

1. Description of Services

A) Good Motive is a membership organisation for individuals interested in learning about and buying electric vehicles. Our primary purpose is to educate and then aggregate members interested in buying an electric vehicle, collect vehicle preference information, and then pass on those details to the partner dealership chosen by the member in order to complete the transaction. Good Motive members are eligible for an exclusive, one-off discount on the price of their electric vehicle.

Good Motive will collect a $200 fee from individuals during the membership sign-up process. This fee will be held by Good Motive and is refundable at any time after joining upon written request, as per the Good Motive refund policy. Once a member purchases a vehicle and receives their discount, the $200 membership fee becomes non-refundable.

B) For the $200 membership fee, Good Motive will:

  • negotiate the price discounts available to members with participating dealerships. The discounts rely on sales volume, so Good Motive will collate member interest and send collected preferences to dealerships in batches.
  • provide information to educate members and the wider public on electric vehicles, their integration with the energy network and optimum ways to charge them. This information is general in nature.
  • answer member queries about electric vehicles but does not hold itself out as an expert advisory service. This advice is given in good faith, and sensible due diligence should be undertaken by the receiver of the information before any decisions are made based on it. Individual circumstances will vary, and Good Motive takes no responsibility for any negative outcomes of the information it provides. Members agree that Good Motive is not liable for any loss or damage incurred by the member as a result of relying on the information that has been provided. While best endeavours will be made to ensure that all technical vehicle information provided by Good Motive is accurate and up to date, this information is always to be superseded by technical information provided by the product manufacturer about their product.
  • provide advice to members on up to three rooftop solar PV quotations. This is to assist them to purchase the most suitable solar PV system for their needs, budget and personal circumstances. Advice may cover such things as system size and composition, panel location, tilt and orientation. The quotations must be independently sourced by the member. Subsequent purchases are the sole responsibility of the member, and Good Motive takes no responsibility for the payment, installation and subsequent performance of the solar PV system.
  • collect information in accordance with its privacy policy. Good Motive will promote members and success stories in a variety of formats including electronic. Any quotes, statements or testimonials from members will be attributed to the individual with their permission. By agreeing to these Terms and Conditions, members provide their consent for Good Motive to use any quotes, statements or testimonials to promote its membership and success stories in a variety of formats, including electronic. Use of members' personal information will be in accordance with the Privacy Policy.
  • educate members and interested parties about public charging points and charging behaviours, and the value of additional public charging points.

C) Good Motive does not:

  • get involved directly in the transaction between member and seller.
  • offer any finance products.
  • take responsibility for the performance of vehicles or other products purchased by members. Any ongoing product queries after the point of sale should be directed to the relevant manufacturer, supplier or car dealership.

D) Good Motive members:

  • must be at least 16 years old.
  • will act in accordance with these terms and conditions and the website terms of use.
  • agree to indemnify Good Motive for any loss or damage incurred.

E) Good Motive members will not claim to represent Good Motive or make political statements about electric vehicles on behalf of Good Motive.

F) Good Motive will continue to collect information from members after their vehicle purchase. This may be via surveys or direct contact. Members may opt out as per the privacy policy. Members will be requested at various times to voluntarily provide information or take part in data collection exercises on the use of their electric vehicles, and this may be undertaken by third parties. Good Motive may share this information with government decision-makers. The purpose of this information-provision is to help government agencies plan charging infrastructure, understand charging habits, understand impact on the electricity grid and develop EV policy. Any information collection of this nature will be in line with the Good Motive privacy policy and be separately requested from members in particular communications.

G) Good Motive may in future offer additional products or services for members, such as discounted Electric Vehicle Service Equipment (EVSE), and these additional services and products will be included in future revisions of these terms and conditions.

2. Payment, Payment Terms and Pricing

Individuals will become Good Motive members only once the $200 joining fee has been received by Good Motive. This payment can be made on the Good Motive website.

Good Motive will make refunds as per the refund policy.

Base vehicle pricing is a 'Regular Drive Away price' which includes on-road costs (personal registration - if business or pensioner registration, estimate will change), dealership delivery charges and GST. Pricing is based on costs provided by our dealers. This price may be subject to change based on model / price changes from the manufacturers. Discounts may be revised at the end of each calendar month.

Member prices and discounts will be based on sign-up date.

3. Dispute Resolution and Mediation

Good Motive management will attempt to mediate any disputes with members prior to ending memberships.

In the event of any dispute arising from, or in connection with, these Terms (Dispute), the party claiming there is a Dispute must give written notice to the other party setting out the details of the Dispute and proposing a resolution. Within 7 days after receiving the notice, the parties must, by their senior staff (who have the authority to reach a resolution on behalf of the party), meet at least once to attempt to resolve the Dispute or agree on the method of resolving the Dispute by other means, in good faith. All aspects of every such conference, except the fact of the occurrence of the conference, will be privileged. If the parties do not resolve the Dispute, or (if the Dispute is not resolved) agree on an alternate method to resolve the Dispute, within 21 days after receipt of the notice, the Dispute may be referred by either party (by notice in writing to the other party) to litigation.

4. Transferring membership

You may transfer your membership to another person who must agree to the membership terms and conditions set out in this document. The transfer must be requested by email, with the new member formally registering on the Good Motive website. Good Motive will then transfer the membership and waive the membership fee for the new member (unless the $200 has been already used to obtain a car discount, in which case the new member will have to pay a joining fee).

5. Termination of membership

Good Motive can end the membership of any individual at any time, at the full discretion of management, if the member breaches any terms of this agreement or act in a way we deem inappropriate. The member will be refunded their membership fee, unless they have purchased a vehicle and obtained the discount available through Good Motive membership. A notice of termination of membership will be issued in writing, effective immediately.

Members may cancel their membership with Good Motive at any time in writing and be entitled to a refund of their membership fee as per the refund policy.

6. Limitation on Liability

Good Motive is not a party to the vehicle sale or lease transaction between the member and the seller of the electric vehicle (participating dealership). Good Motive is not liable or in any way responsible for any acts or omissions on the part of the seller or the manufacturer of the electric vehicle, or any other products which Good Motive members purchase from third parties.

Good Motive disclaims any and all representations, warranties, covenants or guarantees whatsoever, express or implied, in connection with the electric vehicle or the activities or services of Good Motive itself, including, without limitation, the implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.

7. Member code of conduct

Good Motive members agree to act with respect and in good faith in their interactions with other members and with Good Motive management and employees. Members agree to behave appropriately at any Good Motive events. Members may promote their positive experiences with Good Motive, but are not to act as official spokespeople for Good Motive.

Good Motive management and employees will act with impartiality, honesty and good intentions in dealings with members.

8. Additional conditions

Variations: We may, at any time and at our discretion, vary these Terms by publishing the varied terms on our Site. We recommend you check our Site regularly to ensure you are aware of our current terms. Materials and information on this Site (Content) are subject to change without notice. We do not undertake to keep our Site up-to-date and we are not liable if any Content is inaccurate or out-of-date.

Exclusion of competitors: You are prohibited from using our Site, including the Content, in any way that competes with our business.

Limitation of liability: To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for any loss, damage or expense, howsoever arising, whether direct or indirect and/or whether present, unascertained, future or contingent (Liability) suffered by you or any third party, arising from or in connection with your use of our Site and/or the Content and/or any inaccessibility of, interruption to or outage of our Site and/or any loss or corruption of data and/or the fact that the Content is incorrect, incomplete or out-of-date.

Severance: If a provision of these Terms is held to be void, invalid, illegal or unenforceable, that provision must be read down as narrowly as necessary to allow it to be valid or enforceable. If it is not possible to read down a provision (in whole or in part), that provision (or that part of that provision) is severed from these Terms without affecting the validity or enforceability of the remainder of that provision or the other provisions in these Terms.

Prohibited conduct: You must not do or attempt to do anything: that is unlawful; prohibited by any laws applicable to our Site; which we would consider inappropriate; or which might bring us or our business into disrepute, including (without limitation):

  • anything that would constitute a breach of an individual’s privacy (including uploading private or personal information
  • without an individual's consent) or any other legal rights;
  • using our Site or your membership to defame, harass, threaten, menace or offend any person;
  • interfering with any user using our Site;
  • tampering with or modifying our Site, knowingly transmitting viruses or other disabling features, or damaging or
  • interfering with our Site, including (without limitation) using trojan horses, viruses or piracy or programming routines
  • that may damage or interfere with our Site;
  • using our Site to send unsolicited email messages; or
  • facilitating or assisting a third party to do any of the above acts.
